: : : We are a family of five planning to walk up from Jiri and ramble around the Solu Khumbu for a while, then take a plane back to Kathmandu from Lukla.
: : : Does anyone know if it is easy to buy tickets on arrival in Lukla, or should we book / pay in advance? Are there price differences ? And roughly what is the current price?
: : : Thanks !

: : Hello

: : My recommendations would be to book in advance. I've had problems before trying to buy tickets on the spot, it all depends on availability and the weather. If the weather is cloudy, as it often is around Lukla, there can be a huge bank up of people with prebooked tickets and then it is a nightmare trying to get out.
: : I've also had an occasion, some years ago, when I was very lucky and picked up a flight within half an hour of arriving at Lukla.
: : There can be price differences, dependant on whether you get a flight straight to Kathmandu or have to go via Lamidanda or somewhere else. I think the current price is around $90 US.

: : Enjoy

: Thanks for help. We're going to be coming back down late December... do you think it will be as crowded then ?

No I reckon you'll be fine to buy tickets on the spot around late December. From what I can discern, the trekking numbers are down this year so there should be plenty of seats available 'on the spot' around that time. As most of the flights leave early in the morning, you'll be able to sort out the details the night beforehand.

Cheers
