I'll go along with Ian (see his posting) re the Shivapuri ridge. You can kick this off after a short cabn ride from the city centre. It's a pit of an uphill pull through the water project and into the nature reserve but worth it.
I'm not too keen on the village of Chisopani. A little further on however is the smashing little place Pati Banjhang. Worth popping into the Diana Hotel for a meal. Jack, the proprieter, is an excellent cook. He is trying to theme the place after Princess Diana (!!) which some might see as a cynical marketing ploy to attract Brits but it really isn't. Really.
I spent two days watching the village discreetly from a well appointed vantage point. Bliss.
