: Hi everyone,

: I am thinking about do either the Annapurna or Everest Base camp. What kind of physical shape am I supose to be in?? Olympic champion shape?? I live in the rocky mountains of Alberta, Canada so I am not completely out of shape, but our mountains are no where near the size of everest. If you were to recommend a trek for a women on her own with some, but not extensive experience in the back country, which one would it be??

I just came back from the Annapurna Sanctuary Trek.
I am already in pretty good shape, lots of hiking here at home, plus cycling, running, etc.
I got in preliminary shape for my trek by walking to work every day, four miles each way, which was good exercise and a nice way to break in boots.
I found the first day on the climb from Phedi to Dhampus was more steep than I had expected, and my body was pretty jetlagged at that point.
But even though this trek has some steep climbs, you are always only two hours between a wonderful village, a nice cup of chiya, and a peaceful rest.
I don't recommend trekking for someone who leads a completely sedentary life. But I don't think these are the people who are interested in trekking!
After day two, the magical views of the Himalaya keep you going, and albeit sometimes it is one step at a time, very slowly, you get there, and there is no rush!
Have fun!
