: Hi All,
: We will be doing the Langtang trek at the end of May to early June, can anyone tell me what type of temperatures and climate to be expected? Is it best to start at Dunche or sundarajil? Anymore tips about this trek would be appreciated.
: Thanks, Erica
Namaste Erica,
nice proposition, temperatures "down low" may well be 25 C. + in that season, and especially in the Helambu and the Langtang bamboo area expect to get sweatwet. From Bamboo lodge further on there's quite a bit shadow, though, which is nice protection up to close to where the actual NP entrance is. From Langtang village expect a comfortable 15-20 C still around noon, but nights may still be cool.
Basically I would say, start in Dhunche and head down back to Sundarijal, because the roadhead in the Dhunche area is infamous for frequent landslides, even well before Dhunche -- when I trekked it in early october last year, we had to leave the bus about 10 miles before Dhunche and walk -- the bus came in 2 hours later, after dark -- I can only guess what it could be like in may, not dare to say in june!, when monsoon eagerly waiting or hitting already - you may find yourself "locked up" in Dhunche, thats the risk. On the other hand, most people start in Sundarijal because acclimatisation is easier from there. The longer you wait into the year, the worse the chance for a good view, which is also
an advantage on the Dhunche start side.
whereeve you start off, enjoy the trek
