May I offer an explanation of why "ama*zing" is in the spam filter?
The choice of words in the spam filter does two things. It discourages the use of naughty words and secondly it contains a list of words that are used by the most common spammers. I build the list up over several years by reviewing the content of the spam and identifying the keywords that they were using for search engine optimisation.
I think I have a list of about 400 words, most of which are the names of ph*rmaceutical products or p*rn related words.
I have provided a warning page that enables people to insert a * into their posting to avoid the spam filter. Of course, this is of no use to a spammer as a word with a * in it has no value for search engine optimisation.
Because this board is of no use for spammers seeking to increase their traffic, they do not bother to post, and it means this board is no longer hit by spam.
In a nutshell, that's it.
