How long does the monsoon last in Nepal?

A guide contacted by email wants me to go at the end of August.
I have heard of heavy cloud in September and am worried that my trip to the khumbu might be a washout and with poor views.
I asked him about October/November but he says August is best.
Is he trying a con on me?
