Kawakarpo in Tibet

Currently planning Langtang and AC in Nov/Dec/Jan. By the look of the yetizone "meeting place", it appears as if I'll be the only person on the AC in December. I've been to the region 3 times already but I'm somewhat diffident about walking unaccompanied when there's been a bit of a breakdown in law and order.
Anyone have any info on walking in Yunnan/Tibet. Specifically, Mt. Kawakarpo region, Yuben Valley and Meili Mountains?
Also, can one pick up a visa for China in Ktm? Is it possible to cross the Nepal-China border as a lone traveller? How would one get to Meili Mtns from there?
Any other information would be appreciated
