Brett and Fred's suggestions are good ones. Last fall on Kala Pattar at sunset, the mirror lock up on my old manual Pentax SLR kept freezing. I'd put the camera under several layers of clothing for a couple of minutes and then I could take a couple more shots before I had to repeat the procedure.

I kept my digital Canon S60 (love that camera)warm in a pocket in my Parka when I wasn't using it. I was also using a Lithium battery. Never had any problems with it.

I have no idea of the temperature, but it was one of those evenings when the inside of your nostrils start to freeze. Of course, the water in the water bottle was frozen solid in spite of it being heavily insultated, deep in the pack.
