The press will report what is "interesting" and indeed it makes it look like the whole area is in turmoil and suffering riots and violence. This doesn't seem to be the case when you are actually here. Although there are significant demonstrations happening every day.
However nearly everyone I have spoken to seems to be filled with more determination and vigour to see that the king is deposed than I have seen or heard before.
They are all saying that they are now prepared to protest, break curfews and do whatever they can to make sure King Gyanendra steps down and democracy is restored. They are not worried about their own welfare and safety. They will continue until he finally goes regardless of the consequences.
The feeling on the ground is that something WILL happen soon, the determination of the people seems now to be unstoppable. I think things may well change soon. However I will be very surprised if tourists safety is compromised during that time. But there may be delays and inconvenience for tourists along the way, but perhaps not significant enough for anyone to have to change their plans just yet. But I cannot predict the future.
