We had bad luck while in Ladakh too as far as family back home. our nephew died from cancer, our sister-in-law has been put on oxygen for the rest of her life, our brother and niece were injured in a car accident. wow! things seem to happen when one is away. we need to return home early as possible after returning to delhi on the 7th instead of staying til oct 9 as planned. Glad your daughter is okay. we fit the description of the two brothers except jim has a scottish cap and tom a hat he got when in nepal, a light color.. yes, ladakh is great and the people really friendly. definitely worth a visit. tom & jim.

: Hi Tom and Jim
: We've just arrived back in UK, I'm afraid. We stayed at Poplar Eco Lodge in Fort Street, just near you - quite nice but no hot water which was missed after our trek. (we were exceptionally dirty!)
: My good intentions to contact you at the end of our trek fell apart when we learnt that our daughter had been admitted for heart tests, and we spent our last two days in Leh frantically emailing home, when the power was on, that is. (She is ok, but must have further tests.)
: Amazing how these things happen when you're on holiday!
: The Markha Valley Trek was great, but the first couple of days were difficult for me (but not for my wife) when I couldn't sleep a wink. An effect of altitude sickness I think, which cleared up quickly after I took Diamox.
: I hope to post some pictures of Ladakh soon.
: By the way, Tom and Jim, I saw two guys, obviously brothers, in Leh. They were 50ish, tall and had grey beards and big hats! Could that have been you??
: Best wishes

: PS Any Yeti-zoners wishing a change could do a lot worse than visit Ladakh!
