We were told in USA that 800 was good for all lighting---dark and light. We were probably dumb to fall for that. WE were told here in Leh 400 would be good for everything and also told the 400 would not get ruined in x-ray.
Hope when we get home we don't have a lot of over exoposed photos.
Another dumb question---since we have taken a number now of 400 asa speed pixs...will the exposed film be safe from x-ray damage? We will start buying 100 asa for the remainder of our trip but hopefully the 400 ones we took in some remoter areas will be okay.
Thanks---Tom Goldrup.
PS---I believe on our three trips to Nepal we used mostly 100 or possibly 200 asa and they did all turn out great.
: Thats what I was thinking too.
: In fact, I did mananage to take an excleent picture, in a cave, of a lama. I was using my Minox, which takes excellent low light pics, and a 100 asa film. The lama protested that the pic would probably not come out, but it was perfect, despite the low light.
: I think 100 asa is probably good enough, unless you are taking a lot of pics in Gompas or the paintings.

: : OK at the risk of it seeming like a dumb question why use 800 ASA film? One of the biggest problems I found, at altitude, is the brightness and UV. To need 800 ASA means it must be incredibly dark or you are trying to use a long telephoto with a small aperture lens.
: : Just interested since I normally take 50 ASA with me for my backup film camera. Although the lens is 35mm f2.8 so its quite fast.
