I have trekked Lukla to Gokyo in late April, and as Trekking Guide says, you will not encounter any maoists there at all. People who came from Jiri had mixed reports in terms of meeting maoists, but none of them felt threatened or unsafe. As TC (HAP) says, it would cost you about 500 to 1000 rupees in "donations" and they give you a receipt sometimes...
