: Strange. I've never heard of that before. People in Nepal have often told me about the massacre of the Khampa warriors.

Well, it was intended to be but did not happen. The Khambas stayed in war camps, in Kaisang and Ghoretabela, and were elite soldiers, utterly well trained and acclimatised.

The idea was to flush them out. The army went in in June 1974, the Jomosom Trek closed, to disarm them. However, after some skirmishes they slipped away through Dolpho. It was rather embarrasing for the army. As they failed to disarm them and could not get them as intended. Needless to say, from Marpha and up, all local sympathy was with the Khambas.

I was living in Nepal at the time so followed it as well as I could.
