I am not convinced that foreigners romanticize Tibet. Western kids romanticized maoism and communism at a time. Same can be said for some foreign attitudes towards India. Most are quite unaware, I feel.

Well, the essential thing about exherting pressure on the Chinese is solidarity. That all countries apply sanctions, refuse to trade, boycot chinese stuff, etc. Then, it would not be a great sacrifice. Problem seems to me to be lack of cohesion, if the US boycotts then the French will immediately be there trying to curry favours, etc.
