: Anyone been to Ladahk in the winter (feb-mar).

Have not been myself.

: How cold?

Really cold, often sub-zero for days, bring down gear.

: how wonderful?

Absolutely splendid, though expect most of the places that cater to tourists in the summer to be closed.

: how hard to get a flight?

Apparently, not difficult, not much demand for flights that season.

: I would love to go!

There are some winter treks: i.e., treks that can only be done during the winter. Traditionally, the Zanskaris would hike down the river once a year in winter to trade their butter in Leh. The Chaddar trek down the frozen Zanskar from Padum to Nimmu follows in their foot steps. It goes through a deep gorge, and some technical gear is often brought and used, e.g., crampons, ice axes, ropes, screws. Another winter-only trail goes down the Khurna from Chang Chhu (Khurna Sumdo) to the Zanskar Gorge.

On these treks one has to be completely self supported, and preferably one should have some experience of ice-climbing. Does not mean one has to be an expert. On the other hand as the rivers are sometimes not completely frozen there may be bits where one has to crampon slippery ice, do belays, etc., so one should know how before one goes there.
