Unbelievable: road around Mount Kailash

Hi friends of Nepal (and Tibet)!

Reports that Chinese officials are planning the construction of a road leading around Mount Kailash have proved true. Engineers have started the survey in August 2003. Red survey markers have been applied to the existing footpath used by the pilgrims. The road construction work is planned to start in spring 2004. The 60-kilometres-long road is supposed to be completed within two years time. This project is not only an affront for a billion Hindus, Buddhists, Jains, and Bonpos. It will as well destroy a landscape bearing an absolutely unique nature and culture for ever.

Only the declaration of Mount Kailash and its surroundings as World Cultural Heritage by the UNESCO can prevent the project plans to be carried out.
