i don't about crossing cho la in march, in general there is more possibility of heavy snows in jan and feb, and i am not familiar of crossing it in such conditions.

but in the fall, till mid dec, the lodges are open in thangnak and dzongla. i have crossed it in mid dec from thangnak to dzongla. the dzongla lodge was going to be closed in a few days. that said, we had planned to walk to dugla if dzongla was closed.

in clear weather, no extra equipment is required.

reagarding time, it took us about 8 hours (7 am to 3pm). it can be done in less time, i'd say 6-7 hours. we took it easy in general, and spent some time on top of the pass (we had absolutely clear weather) and also took the wrong (old unused way) down the pass that is an icefall that took us some time to come down from.

hope this helps. by april, i know the cho la turns back to its fall like state. i know people who have crossed it in april with no problems.

: Okay, no answers to that question so here is a different one.

: How long is the day, in fair conditions for a fit and acclimatised party to cross the Cho La from lodge to lodge i.e. without having to camp?

: Is it possible to get any sort of dynamic rope in Namche?

: Thanks again.

: Richard
