: From what I understand they have a very peculiar dialect, close to Western Tibetan. Seems to me that Ladakhi people used to read and write Tibetan and have a fairly good comprehension of it, whereas Tibetans would find the dialect quaint and difficult to understand. Pretty much as Switzerdütch can be at times be almost completely incomprehensible to Germans and may be seen as its own language in a sense. An interesting thing is that the people of Baltistan (and Kargil) also speaks a similar dialect, although they have been muslims for a couple of hundred years.

: Well, if you travel in Tibet you will discover that you are travelling in an occupied country and that you can´t travel as you like. We found that there were so many restrictions and hassles that it was pointless to travel in Tibet. In fact it felt so absurd and disgusting that we aborted our trip and flew out to Nepal.

: Whereas Ladakh is wonderful place to travel and trek in.

: Per

i am aware that independent travel to tibet is not allowed and therefore, severely restricted. i was talking of the principle of travelling to tibet.
