Supplies in Namche

Namche has loads of gear shops and much of the stuff is new western stuff. Now as for petrol, you can PROBABLY get it - but it would be ex expedition, and the supply would be unreliable. There is plentiful kerosene everywhere in Nepal, especially in the Khumbu region. Kerosone will be OK in your MSR - after all the Boeing 747 that you fly to Nepal in also uses kerosene as fuel , albeit somewhat better filtered. Test it - I once hadto use 'rubbing alcohol' in my Trangia instead of meths. It worked OK.
You can buy all kinds of food in Khumbu, even quite good French red wine. Great with yak steak and chips.
You can buy down gear from International Mountain Equipment in Namche - its brand new Mountain Hardware. You can probably get their phone number from international directory enquiries, although the lines might still be down.
you can also rent used gear - take plenty of US$ cash, cos you'll need to leave a deposit -

: Hi Yaks & Yetis,
:
: Can I find petrol for my MSR Dragonfly in Namche Bazaar now in Nov./Dec.? I'm heading there soon, and I wouldnt like to carry it from Jiri (= Ktm) if it is not absolutely necessary.
: I have used my stove only with petrol so far, and someone said that there will be serious problems (with the jet?) when changing to kerosine. Is it true, any experience?
: I suppose I can buy atleast some kind of food stuff (suitable for trekking/climbing) in NB aswell, like dried meat & noodles, maybe even serials and so?
: Someone posted here on yetizone that there are some quite ok equipment shops nowadays in NB. Is it realistic to expect to find proper down overalls to rent/buy in there?
: Cheers,
