Aussie customs

G'day everyone,
I realise this is stretching the limits of this site, but does anyone have any experience getting stuff back from nepal thru Australian customs? I came back on Christmas Day from Thailand a few years ago laden with those trendy triangular Thai cushions, which the customs guy promptly confiscated. (Wonder what his kiddies got from Santa that year??) If anyone has any experience and/or tips in this area, they would be greatly appreciated. (I realise the Nepalese govt doesn't like you taking away their antiques - but I'm more worried about the Aussie customs)
