Annapurna IV 7,525 metres

Annapurna IV is the peak on the right. The west ridge is the skyline ridge to the right of the peak. This photo was taken from near Praken Gompa, Manang.

Annapurna IV was initialy explored by Bill Tilman in 1950, who got to within 200 metres of the top. In 1955 a German team, following Tilman's route, reached the summit at 5:30 pm on 30th May 1955. The next three ascents were by the same route. The route follows the Sabche Khola south from the Marsyandi Valley from its confluence just west up the valley from Hongde (visited on Day 6 of the Annapurna Circuit). The route then climbs up onto the West Ridge, and follows this over a dome before the final summit ridge.
