Day 5 Canning to Monadnocks |
First half of this section of the Bibbulmun Track is easy walking through virgin jarrah forest, skirting around a nearby creek. The final 8 kilometres, however, from the Canning River, is predominantly uphill through jarrah and sheoak forest. Tall slender blackboy plants and good views are a feature of today's walk. |

![]() Bit slack today, didn't hit road till 9am. Said my goodbyes to Saint Morgan who is going to head down to the Albany Highway from Randall Road. Had a long break at lovely Canning River, even threw in my fishing line but only had breakfast muesli and sultanas for bait. Cooked up 2 minute noodles. Pack getting fairly light now as food supplies dwindle. Collected some wildflower samples which I will press in book. Morgan scribbled farewell message in the gravel at turn off. "Thanks have beautiful walk in peace" Some nice creeks, tadpoles and tall 20 foot blackboys today. Weather cloudy but little rain, 7 gents from Joondalup Baptist Church are sharing the hut. Had great fellowship, chocolate, wine, crackers - these guys carried everything, enough food to get to Albany. Looking forward to some solitude at the tent camp stop tomorrow. Raining heavily tonight. "On ya Squida for winning the WAFL Sandover Medal" [Editor's note - Squida is a West Australian Football League footy player who won the Sandover Medal for best player in 2003. "On ya" is short for "Good on you"]. |
