Day 39 Northcliffe to Gardner |
To be blunt, the next 106 kilometres from Northcliffe to Mandalay Beach is as flat as Kate Hudson's breasts. Today's walk along the Bibbulmun Track hugs the Gardener River as the track starts to become sandy underfoot. Very diverse walk as you go from karri forest to wilderness plains and back to karri forest again. Two bridge crossings both exceeding 20 metres. |

![]() Had a nice shower and breakfast at the pub. Have decided along with Hermon and Anneka not to have a rest day in this town, but to press on. Following the "Tomato Lake" Gardner River again and vegetation starting to change from old growth karri and jarrah woodlands to sandy swamps. Some wading is to be expected in the next few days, which should be interesting! Have hit some sandy sections already today which slows you down a bit. Met mother and daughter combination, Esme and Elizabeth Kent who are traveling south to north. Also met Simon who will finish his Bibbulmun Track end-to-end in Pemberton. Arrived at the hut about 2pm, pack heavy with extra luxuries, Ginger Nuts and Wheatbix, for 7 day stretch. Another nice night by the river around the camp fire. Can play "Rock of Ages" and In the sweet by e by". Rained during the night but wasn't cold. |
