Time (excluding rests)

5 hours 45 minutes

Distance

21.1 kilometres

Continuing along the Warren River, you soon cross the unique River Road Bridge. Rocky, rugged gullies and ridges come into play with excellent views. At Moon's Crossing (10.7 kilometres) you leave the river as you pass private property and numerous farms. Schafer Campsite overlooks a large dam which has a roped off area for swimming. Fairly easy walk, should have calves of steel by now.

Camp fire at Schafer

Woke up early and couldn't sleep so I hit the Bibbulmun Track early at 7:45am. Rained fairly steadily and to my horror I was nearly hit by a "Widow Maker" [Editor's note - Australian trees have a habit of unexpectedly dropping large branches]. Made good progress and arrived at Schafer Hut at 1:30pm. A large group of 15 were having a lunch break. I met them at the Pemberton pub a few days earlier. Took a photo of a guy's huge calf muscles .

Sue Hayden and Doug were there also. Sue is an internal audit manager with Woolies and knows everyone associated with Woolies. We call her the Bumble Bee because of her stripy thermal underwear.. Lit a huge fire and had a relaxing time chatting around the campfire. Schafer Hut is situated in front of a farm dam, which would have been a beaut swim, if warmer. Maintenance men from CALM placed woodchips near hut while we were there. Cold night!
