Time (excluding rests)

6 hours 15 minutes

Distance

20.7 kilometres

Follow the waugals out of town, and in just 3 kilometres you arrive at the famous Gloucester Tree (old fire lookout). 360 degree views from the top for those brave enough to climb. Slight detour to cascades (8.3 kilometres) is also worthwhile, a popular picnic spot. Last 12 kilometres is pleasant hiking through more karri forest along the Warri River.

Rosellas landing on the author

After chatting till 3am with Louisa, I was off to a bit of a late start 10:15am. Rain coming down but somehow I embrace it. I've always enjoyed a walk in the rain.

Climbed Gloucester Tree to satisfy my craving for adventure (bit slippery) and had some rosellas (Aussie birds) land on me. One kept pecking at my hand til it drew blood! Did a detour to see and have a break at the Cascades. Undulating walk through 'hobbit' country taking Hazel's (sister's) advice - lots of photographs.

Rain eased off later in the day as I hit the Warren Campsite at about 4:30pm. Hermon and Anneka had arrived there 2 hours before me and had collected wood already. After a few attempts we managed to get a good fire going, back to noodles and alfredo for dinner. Great variety of birds around the campsite, up early but not in a rush as rain descends from the heavens. Lovely mist in the valley with tree tops poking through.
