Day 17 Possum Springs to Harris Dam |
The stretch of the Bibbulmun Track from Possum Spring to Harris Dam is very long, but flat, which is why you can "double hut" it. There is much diversity of scenery to enjoy with swampy sections where there are paperbark trees, gum trees, and swamp vegetation, and in the drier areas there is jarrah forest, and many wildflowers including orchids. Yourdamung Campsite is 19 kilometres from Possum Springs if you do not want to 'double hut'. |

![]() Early start at 7am and by 11:45 am I had done 19 kilometres and reached the next hut at Yourdamung. Scott Hunter and Chris from CALM [Department of Conservation and Land Management] were there and we chatted for an hour or so. Another hiker, Pat, was passing through also. After a 2 hour break, I decided to do an extra 13 kilometres to Harris Dam (in sandals). Today, I walked through swampy sections and the walk was relatively flat. Saw 5 kangaroos, 1 dead roo, red-tailed black cockatoos and a feral pig. Looking forward to an extra rest day in Collie, compliments of today's big trek (33 kilometres) Feeling strong, might even watch the AFL grand final although I haven't got a clue who's playing in it. This section from Dwellingup has been challenging and will be remembered for thick growth, the Murray River, getting lost and no sunshine. ![]() |
