Day 14 Swamp Oak to Murray |
The first 10 kilometres are the hardest part of this section of the Bibbulmun Track, with Yarragil Brook a recommended spot for a rest. A long level section tracing the rim of the Murray Valley precedes the steep descent towards the Murray River. The track parallels the river for the final 1.5 kilometres. Murray Campsite overlooks a pool in the River Murray. |

![]() Today I left Swamp Oak at 7:30am arriving at Murray at 1pm. 3 hours into my walk the heavens opened and I was hit with thunder, rain and howling winds. It rained non stop through until 4:30 pm and I was soaked to the bone. The Bibbulmun Track was reduced to a river and thick growth made going difficult. Thank God I kept my footing as a rolled ankle out here would cause real problems! My hands were so frozen when I hit Murray that I battled to unclip my backpack. Hung out my clothes and lit a little fire with twigs I found under the floor and in the toilet. Found another beanie [hat] and threw a hand line into the river. Hut overlooking the lovely Murray River. Shame I won't be having a swim. Metho [Methylated Spirits] stove to keep warm and lots of cuppas. Wonder who won the WAFL Grand Final today, Subiaco or West Perth? |
