Do wake early to ensure that you get the early morning views of Everest.

Early moring view from near Nuntala

Today's trek crosses the Trakshindo La pass and begins the descent to the Dudh Kosi river.

Continue along the level path towards the north east. After 30 minutes, pass a small village, Salung, with at least two lodges

  • Ama Dablam Salung Lodge
  • Everest Panorama Lodge

Reach a prayer wall marking the village boundary - here the path starts to gently descend.

After about an hour, the path rounds a corner, and to the north is a magnificent view of Numbur 6,959 metres, at the head of the Dudhkund Khola valley. A little further on is a teahouse with an even better view - a great place for a break [27° 35.22N 86° 35.96E 2,650 metres] (1 hour 15 minutes).

Cross a stream by a wooden bridge at 2,590 metres. (1 hour 25 minutes). Walk uphill to a junction with a path coming from Thupten Tholing. (1 hour 30 minutes). Continue downhill and cross a bridge over the Gonbu Khola.

Cross a huge cable bridge at 2,500 metres, over the Dudhkund Khola (1 hour 35 minutes). A little way up stream you can see the more modest older bridge. Begin the steep uphill walk.

Arrive at the Numbur Cheese 'Factory' Lodge and Restaurant in Ringmo. [27° 35.22N 86° 36.41E 2,751 metres] (2 hours 10 minutes).

Continue uphill - pass lodges and a prayer wall at 2,750 metres. Turn right following a sign to Trakshindo. Continue uphill past Laliguran's Restaurant, where there is a very ancient stupa [27° 35.50N 86° 36.98E 2,973 metres] (3 hours 10 minutes). Yet more uphill walking brings you to the col of the Traksindu La [27° 35.53N 86° 37.19E 3,153 metres] (3 hours 35 minutes). There are three restaurants at the summit of the pass:

  • Annapurna Lodge
  • Trakshindo Pass Lodge
  • Mountain View Lodge

A gateway marks the highest point of the col. Walk through this and begin the long descent to the Dudh Kosi.

Pass the Trakshindo Monastery (4 hours). Trakshindo Monastery was founded in 1946 by Lama Chuldim of Tengboche. He was joined by other monks living in remote parts of Khumbu, who wished to return to live in Solu, nearer to their home villages. Like the other monasteries in the region, it is a Nyingma Pa 'Red Hat' Buddhist monastery. A little lower is the Mountain View Lodge, run by the monastery.

Continue steeply down through forests of rhododendron and magnolia trees. The village of Nuntala can be seen clearly below. Cross a cable stay bridge over the Taibu Khola (5 hours 10 minutes). Enter the village of Nuntala after 5 hours 35 minutes of trekking.
