Looking back to the Lamjura La from Everest View
Everest View 'village' is located on the spur of a ridge
The distant view of Mount Everest demands a lot of imagination - don't worry - you'll get far better views later.
At least there is a decent cheese shop in compensation
Now where did my mum put my sandwiches? |

Today is a short day, just far enough to get your first view of Mount Everest.
The scene at Everest View - looking north east Descend through the village towards the stupa. When I passed this way a red Maoist flag flew from the top of the stupa. Just below the stupa, cross the bridge over the Junbesi Khola. Take the downstream path following the signs to Namche. A little further on, at a Y junction, follow the left hand uphill path to Namche. After 25 minutes, pass a tea house. Walk steadily though the cool conifer forest. Leave the forest at a ridge where there is a resting place (55 minutes). Behind you is a view of the Lamjura La. Continue along the level path, passing a house at 2,900 metres (1 hour 10 minutes). Continue along through the village of Phurtyang [27° 33.86N 86° 34.51E 3,004 metres] (1 hour 55 minutes). Reach the location known as Everest View (2 hours 10 minutes). There are two lodges here:
It's a great place to stay, but there is very little accommodation, and it may be crowded with large tour groups during high season. There are distant views of Everest to the north. |
